Necrotic traversal is actually faster than putrid But I agree with you, the other corpse skills are useless with putrid in the way.

It's not that the other spells are too slow, just that Transversal and Putrid come out too fast.

Yeah but take into consideration an average reaction time for a person, especially if they can see the target is dieing, and the 20% faster casting time from a PvP staff they have or whatever, and its all down to chance.
Even if someone does have a quicker reaction time, its still not enough to get the 3 second cast of a well of .... down compared to 1 sec putrid.

Easy solution: have putrid damage everyone in PvP. Even your allies.

No, no, no. This isn't about Putrid being overpowered, because it isn't. And I'm not suggesting this to stop people from using Putrid. I just think everyone should have a fair shot at the corpse.

No amount of tweaking with casting time will solve the unpredictability of who gets the corpse first. Even if casting times were 2 seconds, the first necro to start the spell will always come out on top.
However, it does make the spell more interruptable... HMMMMM...

That's the point. They both have an even chance of getting the corpse depending on who has the most skill/who is fastest. As it stands now, it's automaticaly going to the Putrid user.
So just give all corpse exploiting spells the same cast time so that other corpse exploiting skills don't become extinct in the HoH (wait, they already are... boo...)

Could you try glyph of sacrifice maybe? There are little ingenious ways that the developers put in the game to keep it balanced. I think they did a really good job with alot of the game, pvp at least (1 out of 2 ain't bad). Hats off to you Anet.

So either use putrid to stop putrid, use Malign Intervention on the foe before he goes down to instanly exploit his corpse, or use some other spell as fast as putrid to use the corpse first (Soul Feast for example) or take a glyph of sacrifice along and when you see someone going down glyph of sacrifice, follow it with an instant Well of the Profane to screw up your foes.

Glyph of Sacrifice is an awful way to try and get around putrid spammers. You have to anticipate when someone will die as you need to have already used your Glyph before hand to be able to outcast putrid (Glyph's casting time + aftercast + clicking your well spell = losing to Putrid). So you cast Glyph and hope really hard that the person your watching isn't saved by their monk, because if they don't die your useless until GoS wears off, unless you really feel like putting that extra 120 seconds of downtime on another one of your spells.
Speaking of the additional 120 second cooldown caused by GoS, does it really sound like a great idea to devote two skills (on of them possibly an elite with Well of Power) to hopefully get it off once every two minutes? Not sounding like a good deal to me at least.

Psh, I'm sorry, I see now that I misunderstood your post. I thought your issue was with the capricious tactic of smashing putrid as fast as you can taking no real skill. Now I see your issue was that the other corpse skills are getting neglected because of putrid.

I belive that putrid just needs a cooldown time. Maybe 2 or 3 secconds? Diversion and backfire are nice counters but at present the best way to counter it is to bring it yourself and to try and out spam the other team. Glyph of sacrifice works... Once It's great for well of the profane and other long casts though.
Seeing how Anet has been keeping a close Eye on PvP latley I'll bet this will get a slight nerf when they hit Natures Renewal with the bat.

I dunno i usually target monks then necros then mesmer then ele(unless its an ele/mo then its killed first).
I play necro a lot and i know how devistating they can me. same with mesmers. get a good player behind them and its a lot of hurt.
heck i have had fun with teh simplest necro spells. Plague touch is a good example. i have had the other teams sword worry run after me making me bleed meanwhile i amd runing to each of his teammates(and him) and jsut transfering the bleeding and stealing life with vamperic attacks. And thats when i am just making a pest of myself. Its really amazing how fast you can make a whole team bleed like that. not to mention any other conditions that hit me when directly to them.

Well when I play I'm a mesmer, just use something like diversion on the team's one necro to stop the putrid or whatever type of spell that slows casting time so that your team can do something with the corpses.
